  • Admitting and accompanying patients to clinics, hospitals and hospice when necessary
  • Accessing government grants for the disabled, elderly and children

PROTECTION FOR OLDER PERSONS

Effect of Act on Domestic Violence Act, 1998


Provisions was given in the Act to all vulnerable groupsto access protection in terms of domestic violence.Elderly abuse is defined in the act under that samedefinitions;

The Charter puts emphasis on the following rights for older persons:


CARE

The right to receive care as assistance depending on their need and to be cared forby trained and compassionate Caregivers as well as to access health, social andlegal services to enhance the autonomy, protection and care of older persons.


RESPECT AND DIGNITY

The right to enjoy full respect, dignity and privacy and be treated fairlyregardless of age, gender, racial or ethnic background disability or any otherstatus.


PROTECTION

The right to full protection by the law and protectionfrom abuse, violence including physical hazards like fire and floods.


REPRESENTATION

The right to appoint a representative to act on their behalf.


PARTICIPATION

The right to participate in social, religious and community activities,access education programs and information.


SAFETY AND SECURITY

The right to protection from abuse and violence, physical hazards,fire and flood.

The right to social assistance

  • Does Amcare offer home based care services?

    Amcare offers home based care services to the community of Alberton and its surrounding townships. Amcare’s caregivers render this service on daily basis to different clients

  • How do I register to receive Home Based Care services?

    A home visit must be conducted to assess if the clients does qualify for our services and what type of services are required by the client. If a client qualifies, a client’s file will be opened for record keeping.

  • Which days do you offer Home Based Care services?

    Home based care services are available twice per week depending on the clients residing area.


  • What are the costs for the home based care services.

    Our services are free, however the organisation do accept any type of donation.

  • Does Amcare offer full time Home based care service?
    • Amcare does not offer full time service.
    • Amcare is not a registered health care provider in terms of home based care.
    • Amcare’s caregivers attend to different clients in a day.
  • Can I purchase adult nappies from Amcare?

    Amcare does not sell adult nappies but we do donate to the needy clients depending on the availability of donated nappies from our store.

  • How does the transport to hospital service operate?

    Amcare transports all booked clients for their hospital appointments in the mornings and they will be collected when they are finished.

  • Is the transport service available on daily basis?
    • This service is only available on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays.
    • A file must be opened for clients who are interested in utilizing this service.
    • Clients are requested to book for transport a week before their appointments and contribute a minimum fee for each trip booked.
  • Who qualifies to receive the older persons grant?
    • You must be a South African citizen
    • You must live in South Africa
    • You must be 60 years and older
    • You and your spouse must meet the requirements of the means test
    • You must not be maintained or cared for in an institution funded by the state
    • You must not receive another social grant for yourself

On the 11/07/2018 the Elderly programme of Amcare celebrated Mandela day by undertaking 67 minutes of giving back to the community.
Older persons active ageing group

A group for older person’s active ageing activities was established in Phola Park on the 13th of February 2018. The group consisted of 10 female members who are 60 years and older.
